Jonathan Peter "Jon" McLaughlin (born 9 September 1987)[2] is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Bradford City.

Career

Born in Edinburgh, McLaughlin played non-League football for both Harrogate Railway Athletic and Harrogate Town,[3] before signing for Bradford City in May 2008.[4] He had trained with Bradford for a year prior to his signing and combined playing for the two Harrogate clubs with a sports coaching degree at Leeds Metropolitan University.[5] He made his league debut for Bradford City in the final game of the 2008–09 season, on 2 May 2009, against Chesterfield.[6] McLaughlin had been due to make his debut earlier in the season, but was prevented by doing so because of injury.[7] He signed a new one-year contract with Bradford City on 3 June 2009.[8]

In the summer of 2009, McLaughlin was selected to represent Great Britain in the World Student Games in Belgrade, Serbia. He kept three clean sheets in five matches, helping Great Britain to a fourth place finish.

McLaughlin was kept out of the Bradford team at the start of his second season by the club by Huddersfield Town loanee Simon Eastwood. McLaughlin made his second appearance for Bradford City on 2 January 2010 when Eastwood returned to Huddersfield, but was again left out of the side by new signing Matt Glennon. McLaughlin finally enjoyed a run in the side late in the 2009–10 season, and signed a new three-year-contract in early June 2010.[9]
